Females: Do you have brains and beauty? Males: Do you have brains and good looks?
answers1: Yes, I have brains and beauty! <br>
That is something I'm so proud of! ^_^

answers6: Well, your question is rather shallow, I admit I have both
in large quantities. But may I ask why do you say for women, beauty
and for men, good looks? <br>
<br>
What's the difference? <br>
<br>
Can't women have good looks, or men beauty... or do the terms have
sexual connotations as if beauty would make the men feminine and good
looks the women masculine? <br>
<br>
I found that choice interesting.

the real sleeping beauty?
answers1: sorry kiddo but this is a fairy tale...and that's it... <br>
<br>
Sleeping Beauty ("La Belle au Bois dormant" (The Sleeping Beauty in
the Wood)) is a fairy tale classic, the first in the set published in
1697 by Charles Perrault, Contes de ma Mère l'Oye ("Mother Goose
Tales"). <br>
<br>
While Perrault's version is better known, an older variant, the tale
Sun, Moon, and Talia, was contained in Giambattista Basile's
Pentamerone (published 1634). Professor J. R. R. Tolkien noted that
Perrault's cultural presence is so pervasive that, when asked to name
a fairy tale, most people will cite one of the eight stories in
Perrault's collection. Since Tolkien's generation, however, the most
familiar Sleeping Beauty in the English speaking world has become the
Walt Disney animated film (1959), which draws as much from the Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky ballet (Saint Petersburg, 1890) as from Perrault.
answers2: I think it is on wikipedia but i don't know if it is the "real" story.

What is my body type? Help?
answers1: Well, in order to give you a specific body type we'd have to
know your hip measurements too. <br>
Your waist to hip ratio is important to know whether or not you're
considered "curvy". A WHR (Waist to Hip Ratio) of around 0.7 is
considered "ideal" The smaller the number your WHR is, the "curvier"
you look. <br>
<br>
Where is most of your weight? Do you have wide hips, a fat butt (not
necessarily round), saddlebags, big thighs, and big calves? If most of
your weight is in your bottom portion than you're considered a "pear".
This is about 20-30% of the female population. <br>
If the opposite, you have large breasts, weight in your tummy and
larger arms...you're considered an apple. They typically have skinny
legs compared to the rest of their body. <br>
If you're weight is evenly distributed...you're probably a
banana/ruler, which is about 40% of the female population world wide.
<br>
If most of your weight is in your bust and hips and not so much in
your stomach...you have an "hourglass" figure, which only about 9% of
the world's female population has. <br>
<br>
The definition for curvy differs for everyone. D: <br>
<br>
You look like you'd be a ruler, like most women...but if you lose the
weight you could possibly be an "hourglass". But please note, under
each of the four "main types" there are many subcategories... <br>
<br>
You'll just have to measure your bust, waist and hips and see the
differences between the 3! <br>
Here, to save you trouble...here are some calculators! <br>

Bath & Body Works: body lotion, body cream, or body butter?
answers1: All lotion moisturizes to a degree. If you're concerned with
having a certain amount in your lotion, just ask someone in the store
to help you find moisturizing lotion and body wash. Bath and Body
Works does sell lotions and creams that are moisturizing, so you
should be able to find them fairly easily. (:
answers2: body butter. its a really thick moisturizer and it works
amazingly. it makes your skin feel soooo soft.

body wash and lotion lines?
answers1: Bodocology, which is a brand available at ulta, ulta.com,
and i have occasionally seen it at some targets, is awesome for
finding matching products. While they don't have as much variety in
scents as bath and body works does, they do generally have "product
lines" for each scent, including body spray, body lotion, and body
wash. Also, ulta stores and ulta.com has their own brand like this
that is somewhat cheapter than bodocology and their scent lines always
include a body wash, regular lotion, thick lotion, and perfume spray
most of the time. Price wise in dollar amount ulta brand is similar to
bath and body works, but the size of the containers is bigger, so you
are paying less as far as price per ounce, thus actually saving money

Why the dead body look pale?
answers1: they appear as if the guy, yet with their existence sucked
out of them...style of like a porcelain doll sounds like.. in basic
terms approximately like a waxy visual attraction besides. Very
haunting. they appear as if the guy you as quickly as knew, yet
distinctive on an identical time!
answers2: its dead..no need for explainations
answers3: If you are seeing a corpse shortly after death it would
still have the blood however this blood contains no oxygen and the
body therefore doesn't have its "color" If you are seeing this corpse
after preparation for burial the blood has been drain and the venus
system has been filled with embalming fluid.
answers4: dead = dead <br>
what more do you need to explain?
answers5: It settles into the lowest part of the body. If you die on
your back, blood will settle there.
answers6: Because the heart is not beating, the blood drains downwards
away from the skin,
answers7: In a dead body, blood no longer circulates. The "paleness"
you see is the result of oxygen-deprived tissue. <br>
<br>
In an untreated corpse, the blood pools in whichever the lowest point
on the body. (If the body is on it's back, blood will pool in the
back, the back of the arms/legs, buttocks, heels; if it's standing,
the blood will drain to the feet.) <br>

POLL: Urine - Healthy For Skin Or Not?
answers1: It good for your skin when you have been stung by a jelly fish.

They say that urine is sterile...
answers4: i prefer healthy eating
answers5: Try it and see
answers6: I make this for myself when I feel like I need some good,
healthy vitamins. Guacamole sandwhich - 1 Ripe avocado - 1 Clove of
garlic - 1 Teaspoon of olive oil - 2 Slices of wholegrain/seedy bread
- Olive spread/butter 1. Peel the avocado and remove the stone/seed
from the centre. 2. Put the avocado into a bowl and mash it using a
fork until it is quite like a paste, but with a few small lumps for a
nice texture. 3. Take the clove of garlic and remove the 'skin'. Take
a cheese grater (or anything that will chop it up quite finely), and
then put it into the bowl with the avocado. Fold them together. 4.
Roughly add your olive oil (make sure it's olive oil) by adding a
little bit at a time and then mixing it in. You will only need a
teaspoon of it. Mix it all together. 5. Butter your seedy bread. 6.
Put your guacamole all onto the bread and sandwhich it with the other
piece - if you cannot fit all of your paste into the sandwhich, then
keep it in the bowl with a little spoon and eat it with the dryer
areas of the sandwhich - like this crust. 7. Slice it in half. 8. Eat!
This sandwhich will grow on you - you may not like it very much at
first, but I absolutely love it, and I make it whenever my body asks
for it. You can also put sliced tomatos into your sanwhich.
answers7: Unfortunately, yes it is healthy for the skin. But no, I
would not recommend drinking it or putting it on your skin. <br>
<br>
The romans used to drink their own urine at times as they believed it
was healthy for them. Your urine is sterile, so there is no risk of
poisoning yourself, however, it is not very good for you as it is
filled with salts and other unwanted nutrients the body did not want.
If you only drank it, then yes, you would die, as you would be
dehydrating yourself.
answers8: It's called waste for a reason.
answers9: I heard it has some stuff in it that will help with athletes
foot, but you'd have to pee 20 times on your feet for it to work. But
in the end, it's a waste, and that's why you shouldn't put it on your
skin.

piece - if you cannot fit all of your paste into the sandwhich, then
keep it in the bowl with a little spoon and eat it with the dryer
areas of the sandwhich - like this crust.
<br>
<br>
But
in the end, it's a waste, and that's why you shouldn't put it on your
skin.
answers10: Its good for skin and hair ;)

Why is light skin looked upon as better?
answers1: Skin color should never be a factor and isn't important in
our society and therefore, should never be discussed, for everyone is
to be considered equal .So all of your questions are irrelevant! We
don't judge people by the color of their skin ever! It's absolutely
wrong!!! :)
answers2: It's not, in fact people treat people with dark skin better
then people with light skin.

Tan or Pale Skin, which one ?
answers1: ya pale is better!
answers2: I prefer tan skin
answers3: It is in the eye of the beholder...I have noticed in most
ppl it seems to be the opposite of what traits the person possesses I
prefer tan skin as I have light colored hair and is difficult for me
to tan without burning. I also have eyes that change colors from green
to blue but I prefer brown eyes. I think they are attractive. I have
met some people who think tan skin is overrated and prefers fair skin.
From what I have seen, the majority seems to be tan...
answers4: Tan = skin cancer <br>
skin cancer = melanoma = #1 cancer people under 35 die from.
answers5: the natural look is always the best, you can boost your
beauty with make up or real tanning (after putting the right sun block
for you) instead of harming tanning beds

how much skin bleaching?
answers1: Hiiiiiiiiii <br>
<br>
<br>
i dont know abt the price....i just want to say u one thing abt bleach.... <br>
bleach is not good for skin it damages the skin slowly...... <br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Best of Luck!!
answers2: Ha. I am (half) filipina. It would probably be around 60-100
Pesos? <br>
Haha. Just a guess. I heard that skin bleaching in the Philippines is
very popular. Just don't do it too much, because you can seriously
damage your skin. <br>
<br>
=) <br>
<br>
Edit: <br>
Don't listen to those racist people. They are acting like they have no heritage.
answers3: You should read Laura Jefferson's book "Skin Whitening At
Home" ( I saw it's also available in electronic format +video:
http://www.skinwhiteningathome.com ). After 8 weeks I managed to get
my skin a few tones whiter and I also got rid of freckles. <br>
<br>
The method she teaches in her book is natural, inexpensive, and is
readily available in most homes. You could even find some ingredients
in your own backyard. The most wonderful thing about the method she
shares in her book is that it will help you whiten or lighten your
skin pigmentations, freckles, age spots, acne marks, dark underarms,
melasma, or your overall skin color easily and naturally without
breaking your bank or producing dangerous side effects. Good Luck!
answers4: It depends how dark your butt hole is to start with.
Sometimes you have to bleach more than once. But it isn't that
expensive, only like 1200-1550 pesos!
answers5: Many people strive to attain lighter, brighter,
healthier-looking skin. Learning to properly care for your skin on a
day-to-day basis will help your skin stay light and tight, while more
substantial and scientifically-proven lightening products are also
widely available. In my opinion this is the best method

results with skin ID?
answers1: I didnt like it. I tried it for a couple weeks and returned
it to get my money back. They say it is suppose to look worst before
it gets better but come on. My skin was dryed out like no other.
Literally, it looked like my skin was peeling. Then it made my skin
breakout so bad that I had to go get a prescription from my doctor to
make it go away. If you still want to try it, do it because there is a
guarentee money back if you dont like it and they did return it to me
in full.
answers2: I tried it and it doesn't work to well. I actually think
that the regular Clean N' Clear products work better than Skin ID.
Proactive works a lot better as well.

Are women ugly without makeup?
answers1: Can we have more people like BohemianDreams exist please? <br>
Cause that answer was f***ing amazing. <br>
<br>
Anyway, answering your question. I don't think so at all. My
girlfriend looks her absolute best without any makeup at all. I think
a lot of women do. <br>
<br>
Which is why I never understand why people who spend three hours under
make-up artists are the spokespeople for how to look good. My gf
should be the spokesperson. Look at her with her no makeup. She's
gorgeous. <br>
<br>
Why bother putting that stuff on? I sure as hell don't care.
answers2: well, if you're attracted to makeup and not girls, then
yeah. I disagree. I think pretty girls look pretty much just as pretty
with or without it. If they look ghastly without, then they'll look at
best ueber fake with.
answers3: I'm stunning with or without makeup
answers4: I look way better without makeup, I look weird with makeup. <br>
<br>
......20 is old? Oh I think I read that part wrong, older. Obviously
20 y/o's are older than some people. lol
answers5: I personally think women look better without make up. I
don't think mos look to bad with it I just think they don't really
need to waste the time or worry about if it's still on etc. I'm well
past 40. I'm certainly not going to start pasting it on now. In fact I
think opposite of you, I think younger women look better with make up
than older women do. Especially foundation, cover up and concealer.
answers6: No, your notions of beauty just happen to come from what you
see on TV. I think they look better without it.
answers7: Most women I know don't wear makeup(maybe some eye makeup),
myself included. I don't understand why women wear it, they look like
they are wearing masks. Besides the fact that it is very uncomfortable
to wear you can't touch your face or some times eat, drink or kiss
with out worrying about messing it up.
answers8: i think girls who wear make up are actually robbing
themselves of nutrients the sun gives a humans skin, i mean back in
highschool every time id see a girl without make up on theyd look
really tired or sick and i think too much makeup will actually block
their pores so when its gone their skin just looks tired and somewhat
starved. I mean guys dont look like theyve been up for 2 days straight
and we dont wear makeup up but girls who take their makeup off do.
This obsession with make up is stupid and has gotten out of hand its a
waste of time and money.
answers9: I hope you think the same when you are past forty!
answers10: On average they are "uglier," or not as pretty, when not
wearing make-up. I know some girls that I think would A) look better
with no makeup on, and/or B) look better with less makeup on. These
girls are genuinely quite hot and the makeup doesn't quite help them
showcase this. I think that makeup doesn't really have a big impact
on improving a woman's appearance unless it is applied professionally
(cite: models with and without makeup).
answers11: Some women are pretty without makeup and some aren't. Just
like how makeup looks good on some people and not others. But I agree,
unless you're some gorgeous movie star wearing makeup past 40 does not
make a difference.

What is a good book/DVD on applying makeup?
answers1: marie claire hair and makeup <br>
the best book on makeup <br>
answers2: Well, I would first suggest buying a lot of nice colors at
the drugstore. Then, I would go to a makeup counter at the mall, and
ask them to apply different looks on you, saying that you have an
event coming up and you need to find the right style. Pay attention to
what they do, and mimic its! Its easier to learn in person than to
watch somebody else do it to a random stranger! You could go to 3 or 4
different counters on different days, so that if you went home, took a
few pictures, and then studied them, you could figure out some
professional techniques!
answers3: ITS SOME BOOK CALLED,THE SOUP OF LOVE AND MAKEUP?
answers4: i do no longer think of it relatively is impolite to
possibly, get one merchandise out at a time and notice with a small
replicate yet, it relatively is impolite to empty each little thing
out of her handbag and take up a table and an entire different
comprehensive seat and then purely bypass away each little thing out
for something of the holiday. She probably grew to become into overdue
yet, additionally did no longer want each physique sitting by making
use of her too and so what better excuse whilst she pretends she's no
longer accomplished and does not positioned it away.

is it wrong to feel wrong without wearing makeup ?
answers1: so wear it. lol. you like it, no reason not to wear
makeup. besides, as you have pointed out, you are beautiful either
way, so might as well go with the makeup since you seem to think you
look even better, if that were possible.
answers2: Well if you want to break the habit then wear a little less
makeup every few weeks. Just put on the stuff that make your features
pop. <br>
<br>
Example: <br>
*Thin mascara <br>
*A tad bit blush <br>
*Chap stick <br>

Guys!!! do you like girls who wear makeup?
answers1: all boys say they prefer natural girls but when it comes
down to it if they saw a girl with no makeup or little makeup on and a
girl with a adverage amount of makeup/alot of makeup they would look
at the girl with the adverage amount on
answers2: Only makeup that helps bring out the more natural look
(foundation/a light blush). Anything else would should only be used on
special occasions if that's what you want to do (like lip-stick and
eye-liner). <br>
<br>
Also, don't forget to blend your makeup into your natural color and
not leave a line where it's obvious that you have make up on and on
the other side you don't (usually around the jaw is where it's
noticeable).

rollers for hair straghtening ?
answers1: Rollers are for curling your hair. Not straightening your hair.
answers2: Well, it depends on what kind of hair you have and if it has
been chemically straightened. If the latter, then yes, rollers will
make it straight, but you have to wet your hair and then put the
rollers in and dry them with a hair dryer. If your hair is not chem.
straightened, then a hot iron will do the job. If you are handy with a
brush and hair dryer, you can dry your (towel dry) wet hair by rolling
small parts of hair on the brush and drying it with your dryer. Roll
the brush with the hair away from your scalp and dry each part of hair
thoroughly. Go to the next piece only after the first one is
completely dry. It takes a little practice to do it salon style, but
if you practive enough you'll learn the technics. Yes, if done good,
it will look beautiful. It works for me.
answers3: I blow dry my hair straight, and it frizzes. I dont know
why. I do it like they say.. I just use a flat iron
answers4: It relies upon on their heats! If the straightener went as
much as six hundred levels and the nice and snug rollers went as much
as 3 hundred, then needless to say it may be the straightener for
worse! if the nice and snug rollers went as much as 550 and the
straightener went as much as 312, then certainly the rollers are
worse. yet whilst they're an analogous temperature, then the
straightener could in all probability be worse because of the fact in
case you pull lots and repeat lots, it does not be reliable, which
fries and ruins your hair. yet once you straighten your hair in layers
and sections and enable the straightener drift via your hair, then
they're the two equivalent.
answers5: difficult problem. search over search engines like google.
just that might help!

Permanent way to change hair texture?
answers1: Nope new hair will always be your natural hair texture. I
mean you can permanently straighten your hair but new hair will grow
with the natural texture. This is just an example.

use to or a technique? If u have carried out no longer something in
any respect, even the typical replace of a shampoo/conditioner that u
r no longer use to would desire to reason this. If no, then get to the
fundamentals ...get a trim from a consultant stylist and
characteristic her initiate u off on deep conditioners which could
help with this. Ask a consultant simply by fact they'd tell precisely
what u have had carried out and if there is any type of substantial
harm on your hair and what to do to opposite the effects r a minimum

hair styles??? curly hair:(?
answers1: hav u tried straightening your hair. permanently. then u
could get an awesome hair cut. or u could get like midly curly hair.
then make it medium hair cut. one of my friends has natural curly hair
and she can work both of them. straight and curly. i'm sure u could do
it too.
answers2: I have curly hair too. If your keeping it long the best
thing to do is have a lot of layers. it keeps your hair much lighter
feeling.
answers3: Try a curl relaxer from Redken. It works fairly well for
some types of curly hair. It will slightly relax your curls and make
them less fuzzy. Or, instead of straightening it completely, try
making the curls bigger with a curling iron. Just pull your hair
completely taught, and then roll your hair around the barrel in the
direction of your natural curls.Use a 2 or 3 inch barrel curling
iron.You could also try an "Inside out braid." It works well for thick
hair. (If your hair is long enough.)
answers4: i have curly hair too and this helped me lots <br>
<br>

<br>
<br>
and this it the cut i have ps. i love it! <br>
<br>

<br>
tips <br>
<br>
1. Use only intensely moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Curly
hair needs extra moisture, so avoid clarifying or volumizing shampoos
and conditioners that will strip your hair of its moisture. <br>
2. When you wash your hair, massage it gently, don't scrub it. And
when you get out of the shower, use a wide toothed comb to get rid of
any tangles. Never use a brush on your hair! <br>
3. Don't forget to deep conditioner your hair at least once, if not
twice a month. Use a tube of deep conditioning hair masks, don't spend
your time or money on hot oil treatments, they aren't strong enough
for your hair. Generously apply the thick treatment to your hair and
pile your hair on your head. Cover with a shower cap and wrap in a hot
towel for an hour. Your hair will love you! <br>
4. Never rub your hair. The friction created from rubbing your hair
with a towel is a major contributor to frizz. Blot your hair instead
and let it dry naturally once you have styled it. If you have to use a
hair dryer, always use a diffuser. <br>
5. Be careful about your haircut. Normal cuts don't work for curly
hair, especially blunt cuts. Your hair up to will end up flat from the
weight of your hair, while your hair will poof out towards the bottom
(believe me, I speak from experience on this one!). Not even standard
layers will work, since they will interrupt the curl patterns. There
is a special way to cut curls diagonally that will lead to them laying
and looking the best they can! So make sure you choose a good stylist
who knows how to cut curly hair! <br>
<br>
I hope these tips help with those curls! Remember, if you have curly
hair, enjoy it! Those with straight hair wish we could be you!
answers5: Embrace your curly hair!! I have curly hair too and I got is
short with layers and it made a world of difference...something like
this
answers6: I agree with getting your hair permenatly straightened, if
you have the money and time.You would need to deep condtion it maybe
once atleast a week and look after it but straight hair can be a lot
more verstalie.

What accessories would go with this dress?
answers1: Don't wear too many accessories because you don't want them
to overpower the dress. Simple accessories will probably work best.
For eye makeup maybe something quite neutral or a purplish colour to
go with the dress? Your decision. Hope this helps :)
answers2: You should get a necklace with a small diamond on it.A pearl
bracelet, or a silver one with any type of design. Black or silver
shoes. <br>
For your make up; you should do a light purple with a touch of silver
answers3: a few purple bangles different shades and maybe some purple
earings.. but the dress speaks for itself and doesn't need to be to
done up :D
answers4: thong panties
answers5: Diamond necklace and earrings <br>
a black clutch with some diamonds would match <br>
and silver eyeshadow and black eyeliner would look really pretty

Cheap Accessories?! Please help me. :)?
answers1: For earrings...I think this site might help. I always get
all my stuff at http://www.earringsplanet.com/ <br>
<br>
All their earrings are just at $3.50. Really cheap and nice.
answers2: Hobbypocket all the way, their stuff are adorable and
basically all my jewelery/accessories are from there. If you search
their site you'll find really nice stuff for cheap prices. But
obviously if you want the cheap prices I'd say stay away from the
sterling silver jewelry coz those are the really good quality ones.
Since your looking for the whole package of accessories I seriously
recommend this site, here's the link. Hope you like it as much as I
do and hope you find what your looking for. Oh another thing, they're
an online store so they ship worldwide which is awesome. <br>
<a href="http://www.hobbypocket.co.uk/"

answers4: Urban Outfitters! They have tons of ridiculously cheap, and
cute, necklaces, headbands, rings, and bracelets. I wouldn't cheap out
on the bag. You can find some affordable leather ones at J. Crew, but
they aren't cheap. For earrings, scarves, and hats (and headbands!),
check out Nordstrom. They have tons at great prices. <br>

Why does the left grant 155 million tax dollars to the National Endowment for Humanities?
answers1: You mad?
answers2: You have to put these numbers in perspective. The US has a
population of 300 million people, so the cost for the endowment for
the arts comes out to 50 cents for each US citizen. The same is true
of Solyndra - a drop in the bucket. <br>
<br>
The real budget issues are the tax cuts for the rich and the wars in
the Middle East. The debt accumulated as a result comes to $50,000 per
US citizen. <br>
<br>
But hey let's whine about the 50 cents per citizen cost of funding
arts, rather than the $50,000 per citizen debt caused by wars and tax
cuts for the rich.
answers3: Doubt that dollars to the NEH are as useless as they say.
The program started in 1965 with only a 5.9 million budget, but grew
to 177 million under the first Bush presidency, and has been declining
since then.
answers4: Pork? Like the Republican Bridge to Nowhere? You really

major return on that investment. <br>

answers6: "Do as they say, not as they do"
answers2: You have to put these numbers in perspective. The US has a
population of 300 million people, so the cost for the endowment for
the arts comes out to 50 cents for each US citizen. The same is true
of Solyndra - a drop in the bucket. <br>
<br>
The real budget issues are the tax cuts for the rich and the wars in
the Middle East. The debt accumulated as a result comes to $50,000 per
US citizen. <br>
<br>
But hey let's whine about the 50 cents per citizen cost of funding
arts, rather than the $50,000 per citizen debt caused by wars and tax
cuts for the rich.
answers3: Doubt that dollars to the NEH are as useless as they say.
The program started in 1965 with only a 5.9 million budget, but grew
to 177 million under the first Bush presidency, and has been declining
since then.

Science without humanities would lead to further war. Explain with examples in detail.?
answers1: Science without humanities would lead to further war.
Explain with examples in detail.? <br>
<br>
~~~ Science works in 'labs', studies stuff, makes hypotheses and tests
them... No one gets killed except in an accident! True science is
apolitical, and has no beliefs to defend and propagate! <br>
War and most other human 'atrocities' are the result of 'beliefs'
(religion), not science! The 'true believers' use the findings of
science to their advantage against the
heathen/unbelievers/Communists/whoever believes differently...
answers2: This is demonstrably fallacious as a non sequitur and/or as
affirming the consequent. <br>
<br>
Science is an epistemological method and war is the result of human
behavior. <br>
<br>
As an epistemological method science does not in any way directly
apply to war categorically speaking. <br>
<br>
Rather that as a result of human behavior science(or more accurately
technologies resulting in the application of science) is used to
develop tools that can come to be exploited for use in warfare. <br>
<br>
However the suggestion that science, without humanities would lead to
further war is not logically consistent considering that science is
defined as an epistemological methodology. <br>
As such science is within the category of humanities as it relates to
a particular branch of philosophy, most notably epistemology. <br>
<br>
Though I do not think this was the intent of the assignment. <br>
<br>
I believe it is your task to reiterate what is already common
knowledge, that being that other branches of philosophy, politics and
ethics, offers a pragmatic means to avoid violent conflict that are
result of human nature. <br>
That is to say that politics and ethics can find solutions to problems
without reverting to the violence of outright combat, but it should
not be suggested that this is always going to be the case. <br>
For example if the agenda of one nation is to violently occupy another
nation, then it seems reasonable that the nation that is the target
for occupation has an imperative to combat an invasion with what
violence is necessary to prevent its culture from being destroyed or
conquered by the oppressive or genocidal agenda of an invading
aggressive nations military. <br>
<br>
<br>
For this reason it seems like a B.S. assignment to me. <br>
<br>
Just saying.
Is a political science class a social science or humanities?
answers1: Aprille Ericsson? No person in an anthropology
classification instructed you all cultures are the same, so i do know
you're full of s###. Additionally, it's essential that the individuals
who design stuff that shoppers use have some indistinct clue about
what these buyers might be taken with.
answers2: what a good question
answers3: The humanities are academic disciplines that study the human
condition, using methods that are primarily analytical, critical, or
speculative, as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of
the natural sciences. <br>
<br>
The humanities include ancient and modern languages, literature,
history, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as
music and theatre. The humanities that are also regarded as social
sciences include history, anthropology, area studies, communication
studies, cultural studies, law and linguistics. <br>
<br>
Social science is the field of study concerned with society and human
behaviors. "Social science" is commonly used as an umbrella term to
refer to a plurality of fields outside of the natural sciences. These
include: anthropology, archaeology, criminology, economics, education,
history, linguistics, communication studies, political science and
international relations, sociology, geography, law, and
psychology.[1][2]
answers4: I don't know a thing about it, but social is closer to
politics than humanities.
Wheres a good art school????
answers1: school of the art institute in chicago, like the other guy
said. almost everyone i know who wants to go to art school wants to go
there. <br>
also RISD-rhode island school of design is really good.
answers2: Check out Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. I
have been getting my MFA in figurative painting there. They offer the
same degrees online as they have on campus (which is what I'm doing,
since I live so far away!), and they are properly accredited. They
have a great Illustration department, with professors that have worked
in the industry for many years. Their website is: <br>
<br>
http://www.academyart.edu
answers3: I would highly recommend CalArts and RISDY
answers4: The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is considered one
of (if not the) best art school in the country. <br>
<br>
btw it's art college not collage, lol!
answers5: Check out the main website for the Art Institutes. They're
pretty good, and they will help you find the school that best fits
your interests. California is buzzling with job opportunities, but the
competition is very high. I chose to go to an art school on the east
coast (it's a little calmer). But it all depends on what you like. Do
you like warm weather? Cold weather? Big cities? Beautiful campuses?
Do you even want to study in the U.S? I studied marble sculpture in
Florence, Italy last year. There are so many opportunies and different
directions that you can go in! Good luck! -Abigail
answers6: RINGLING. <br>
ITS IN FLORIDA
answers7: <a href="http://www.maxthemutt.com/"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.maxthemutt.com/</a> this is the
school I go to and I'm a huge advocate of it. It focuses on good
foundational drawing skills, the first year has 9 hours of life
drawing a week alone. I'm in the Classical animation program, but they
have a sequential arts program as well. <br>
It's a very hard core school, all of the teachers have worked in the
industry yet are very personable. I've had teachers take personal time
on a number of occasions to help me with difficulties I've been
having, and my animation teacher even offered the students with
high-passes free animation lessons on her own time. <br>
The most important thing in finding a school is finding one that
suits your personality. Everybody learns in a different way, some like
to take their time, others like myself work best under pressure. Good
luck finding one that suits you, I found this school when I was
searching for an animation program just by requesting information
packages from all the schools I could find online.
what makes art, art?
answers1: My definition of art is "anything in a frame" - such as Andy
Warhol putting a Campbell's soup can in a frame. When someone does
that, it invites the viewer to look at an everyday object in a new and
abstract way - like a cylinder with red, white and gold designs.
Theoretically, anything that is presented out of its environment for
public consideration can be considered art. That doesn't make it good
art, just a basic artistic statement. <br>
<br>
Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There's lots of things I
think are "bad" art that I don't get at all, yet they get displayed in
galleries and museums. <br>
<br>
When a work of art is termed "great" it's because most people admire
it plus it gets critical acclaim - like the Mona Lisa.
answers2: Art is form communicating meaning. <br>
<br>
It is also form that holds correspondence to reality and communicates
a relevant and true meaning. <br>
<br>
If you paint a flower just to be decorative, while it is artistic in a
basic sense, it is not art by virtue of intention. <br>
<br>
The form of a flower has everything to do with the flowers niche in
nature and its own existence. Its beauty is a suggestion of its
perfect correspondence to its environment by which it occurs as life.
<br>
<br>
If a flower were shaped like a rock, its function would be different
and it wouldn't be a flower. <br>
<br>
A rock however is attractive when it is smooth and round, because it
occurs as a feature of a freestone stream which is an idyllic setting
for life. <br>
<br>
The relationship between a child and a parent is a beautiful
demonstration of strength condescending to weakness to bring it up to
the level of strength. <br>
<br>
The artist is the person who recognizes these moments of profound
significance in the progress of life, and presents them to us in a way
that resonates with our awareness, even if our conscious knowledge is
not as elevated as that of the artist. <br>
<br>
The artist might paint a picture of a mother and children strolling
through a marketplace in Europe in the 1800s with the correct cues of
light, color, posture, etc. etc. etc. that brings to the forefront of
our mind the totality of the concept of a mother caring for and
leading and enjoying her children. <br>
<br>
While we may say these things, the artist can demonstrate them with
compelling imagery. <br>
<br>
Even the decorative flower is art, because in all things there is the
principle of life and functional meaning and therefore, although the
painter may not have a full grasp of the nature and being of the
flower, the artistic significance is implicit in the flower, and so it
still resonates with the viewer in terms of beauty vitality, delicacy,
etc. etc. etc. <br>
<br>
Art again, is a form that has in it the meaning of life.
answers3: What makes art, art is INTENT. <br>
<br>
A urinal is just a urinal, but when Marcel Duchamp signs it with a
pen, that adds intent and concept to it. It takes on whole new
meaning. <br>
answers4: What makes art, art? A coninuously evolving reaction to
human markings.
answers5: The intention of the creator.
answers6: Another vote for intent. The dividing line (art/not art) is
context. The quality of being art is not something that resides
within the actual work.
answers7: something inside of you that stimuli respond to...art is
answers8: art is whatever you like. I can look at a garbage can and if
i think wow that is really cool, then that is art.
<br>
recently where people in NY were exhibiting their art and one woman
had a bunch of dryer lint in a picture frame and another woman had a
collection of rubber bands on the cardboard core of a paper towel roll
as a sculpture she was selling for $1000? <br>
<br>
Who am I to doubt my abilities as an artist if THAT'S all I have to
compete with? I never let myself consider being an artist as an
occupation until 3 years ago when I came down w/ cancer. Now I can't
think of anything I'd rather do or anything that would be more
valuable for my family than my artwork.
answers10: it's just on the view of the person looking at an
object.And it also depends upon his mood of the person looking at the
object. <br>
But as you ask as an art ,one thing might be precious to you ,may not
be the same with all other viewers , one thinks it's disgusting and
other thinks it's marvellous. <br>
<br>
For an art maker it's good to get comments from most of the
persons, so that he can deliver wonderful things to the world. <br>
Even though no one can satisfy all the people, he can try to maximise
it to the number of people.
What is art?
answers1: Art is an expression of self; of one's emotion. It is also a
language...looking through art at various eras through time gives us a
window into the past. I love art - it's my release. The way that the
pigment blends and shapes...catches the light and creates a world of
imagination...
answers2: Art is the product of someones personal expression of their
feelings, thoughts or emotions. <br>
<br>
Pornography is meant to titillate, photography of the nude body may
titillate but is not the main objective. <br>
<br>
There are some things I'm not into, but I wouldn't ever say it's not
art. Like most public sculpture leaves me baffled, but to each his
own. I'm sure half of my work would confuse and befuddle as well.
answers3: Art is a way of life. You don't make art because you want
to--you make it because it insists upon existing.
answers4: i would argue first off that pornography is art. though some
may be totally uncreative and morally unacceptable it is still an
expression of sex and sexuality. art to me is the expression of
anything through any medium. i belief that everything in the world has
the potential be regarded as art to one person or another. In this i
mean that once one person regards something as a work of art it is a
work of art reagrdless to whether someone else disagrees or not. its
the relativity of art.
answers5: My definition of art: the creative expression of oneself
through visual, musical, or literary means, or by performance. <br>
The line between art and "non art" is not always cut and dry,
however. Pornography, for instance, exists only to sexually arouse
and serves no other purpose. Art, on the other hand, may end up
sexually arousing people but that is not its sole intent.
Michelangelo's David, for example, is believed by many to be
homoerotic(especially since the artist was gay), but for others it is
a creative portrayal of a human being contemplating the challenge
lying ahead(defeating Goliath).
answers6: art is the way you express yourself! mad, sad ,depressed art
is life its a flower. its in every person. dance, painting ,karate all
art so there you go art.that is how you find yourself,
answers7: The definitions and boundaries of art have changed just as
society has changed throughout the centuries. Art is something that is
created out of expressive intent- it is transcendent. However, I feel
many people have abused this expressive art. For instance, one
particular painter created large paintings my squirting paint out of
his anus. Another female painter created her so called "vagina
paintings"- I don't think I need to describe that. As much as I
disagree with that, they are art. They were created with expressive
intent. <br>
<br>
When it comes to the fine line between art and pornography- that
boundary has been changing for centuries. What we view as distasteful
and pornographic now, may be considered beautiful expressive art in
the future. As far as my personal definition of pornography v. art
goes; I don't think that nudes(male or female) are pornographic. I
believe that something becomes pornographic when the figures begin to
masturbate, or otherwise try to get themselves or one another off.
<br>
<br>
Hope this helps. I have a great paper written on this subject, email
me if you would like to read it.
answers8: ART in my opinion is an expression of craftsmanship in any
medium that captures the viewers attention and provokes a change in
their emotion and generates an action or reaction to such "art work".
<br>
<br>
Good or Bad- reaction can be a change for the better. <br>
<br>
Diego Rivera did murals of working class people and brought attention
to the "immigrant" causes of over a hundred years ago- his art IS
still fresh today with the recent world events. SO "art" is timeless,
since history always repeats itself. <br>
<br>
Pornography is not an art form. Photography however is. <br>
A nude is only a character in the picture, when it becomes a part of
the over all essence of the art work. Most graphic photos of sexual
poses and such are just not artistic at all. They are just tools for
perversion, like any other sexual diversion. <br>
<br>
Don't get me wrong a beautiful nude painting or photograph when
"artistic" is just as incredible as any other master piece. <br>
<br>
Breast Cancer survivor "nudes" are raw and really stir up emotions and
language...looking through art at various eras through time gives us a
window into the past. I love art - it's my release. The way that the
pigment blends and shapes...catches the light and creates a world of
imagination...
answers2: Art is the product of someones personal expression of their
feelings, thoughts or emotions. <br>
<br>
Pornography is meant to titillate, photography of the nude body may
titillate but is not the main objective. <br>
<br>
There are some things I'm not into, but I wouldn't ever say it's not
art. Like most public sculpture leaves me baffled, but to each his
own. I'm sure half of my work would confuse and befuddle as well.
answers3: Art is a way of life. You don't make art because you want
to--you make it because it insists upon existing.
answers4: i would argue first off that pornography is art. though some
may be totally uncreative and morally unacceptable it is still an
expression of sex and sexuality. art to me is the expression of
anything through any medium. i belief that everything in the world has
the potential be regarded as art to one person or another. In this i
mean that once one person regards something as a work of art it is a
work of art reagrdless to whether someone else disagrees or not. its
the relativity of art.
answers5: My definition of art: the creative expression of oneself
through visual, musical, or literary means, or by performance. <br>
The line between art and "non art" is not always cut and dry,
however. Pornography, for instance, exists only to sexually arouse
and serves no other purpose. Art, on the other hand, may end up
sexually arousing people but that is not its sole intent.
Michelangelo's David, for example, is believed by many to be
homoerotic(especially since the artist was gay), but for others it is
a creative portrayal of a human being contemplating the challenge
lying ahead(defeating Goliath).
answers6: art is the way you express yourself! mad, sad ,depressed art
is life its a flower. its in every person. dance, painting ,karate all
art so there you go art.that is how you find yourself,
answers7: The definitions and boundaries of art have changed just as
society has changed throughout the centuries. Art is something that is
created out of expressive intent- it is transcendent. However, I feel
many people have abused this expressive art. For instance, one
particular painter created large paintings my squirting paint out of
his anus. Another female painter created her so called "vagina
paintings"- I don't think I need to describe that. As much as I
disagree with that, they are art. They were created with expressive
intent. <br>
what are good business involving visual arts like drawings, paintings, etc?
answers1: Well, I enjoy teaching, so I have business cards and flyers
promoting my classes at the State University "Leisure Learning"
non-credited classes. The University promotes my classes on television
and newspapers and they get half the money. <br>
I also design websites for friends for fifty dollars. They are not
registered domains. One example is www.arr.homestead.com <br>
A lot of people ask me if I can paint a portrait of their children,
wives, pets etc.. <br>
You could create your own greeting cards or calendars and sell them
or at the very least, save yourself 3 dollars for a hallmark card
every time one of your friends have a birthday. <br>
That's about all off the top of my head, but there are great books
about the business of being an artist.
What can anyone tell me about the visual arts/photography program at Mason Gross?
answers1: Mason Gross is considered a decent art school. It's seen as
solid - not amongst the elite, but far, far from the worst. It's
totally solid. And if you're in-state NJ, it's an amazing bargain.
<br>
<br>
I can't speak specifically to their photography program.
What competitions can I enter to get awards for visual arts in Australia?
answers1: Go in search of "call to artists for Australia", art
competitions, art entry, or other places on line. There are plenty
out there. Check with your local art museums, art galleries, art
education centers, art schools, etc. Be cautious that they are
authentic, some people may just want your entry fee money. Check them
out first.
What will look good on my acting resume? Need Acting tips!?
answers1: Perform and practice! Memorize monologues in your free time
in front of the mirror. Take acting classes at a community college if
you have the funds for it. Audition in local theaters.
answers2: Always use google. It sounds silly but opportunities for
open auditions get posted all of the time especially if you live in LA
or NYC. Get classes! You need to know what to do even if you are a
natural actor screen and stage techniques and terms are important to
learn. Even being an extra is good at first. It can be super fun and
you will learn what it is like to be on camera. Next you will want to
get headshots and audition for short films. Most do not pay but they
look good on a resume will give you experience and if you love acting
it will be fun. Get a manager or an agent they will find work for you
and IF THEY ARE LEGIT THEY WILL ONLY CHARGE A PERCENTAGE OF WHAT JOBS
THEY GET YOU. Sorry to go all shouty caps on you but it is important.
look it up and find a good one near you. After this they will expand
your resume. If you get stage fright so bad you cant perform this
PS3 + HDX589W Home theater + Panasonic TV?
answers1: > Does something desire to get replaced on the television
for it to artwork?< certain, precisely. audio device desire to be
switched from inner to exterior. it truly is often executed by using
going into the on visual exhibit unit menu yet some older fashions
have a activate the again.
answers2: You bought a HT with only one HDMI in. Return it.
answers3: Bill is right. Return it & get a receiver w/ 4 HDMI inputs.
That's the problem with home theaters in a box. They are not flexible
or expandable. You'll also need 5 speakers & a sub too. May I suggest
this: <a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700HTG2/Yamaha-and-Energy-Home-Theater-Bundle.html?tp=6419"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700HTG2/Yam...</a>
It's considerably better than what you bought & will most likely last
you 10x longer. Because when your system breaks, it's all broken.
answers4: You are correct. Just connect HDMIs from PS3 and Home
Theater to TV for video and optical cable from PS3 to Home Theater
System for 5.1 surround sound.
for pc gaming, are home theater speakers better than speakers meant for gaming?
answers1: of course they are better. Nothing like playing Halo in
full surround sound.
answers2: Yes, Home Theater speakers will be better than computer
based speakers or mini-speakers.
answers3: I think theyre the same because both is loud,surround and
expensive.I have gaming logitech 5.1
answers4: Yes because the home speaker system are better quality in
most cases. Game speaker systems are usually cheap thats and arent
good enough to be called home theater systems.
answers5: Home theater speakers are higher fidelity. They are
engineered to accuratly reproduce every sound, whether for a game or
otherwise. Thats what I use.
answers6: Would you water your lawn with a soda-straw? <br>
<br>
Look - computer speakers are designed to give 1 person sitting at a
computer surround sound. <br>
<br>
For dorm rooms - they can also be used for a small bedroom to let you
and one other person watch movies on the computer monitor. <br>
<br>
But to fill a living room with sound so a family can watch a movie on
a TV and get theater-quality sound - computer speakers just dont have
the surface area/power to fill a room with sound. <br>
<br>
So one is not 'better' than the other - but they are built with
different users or rooms in mind.
answers7: I don't know
answers8: theater speakers r better thats y ppl go to movies <br>
DUH!
answers9: Either work. They both reproduce sound accurately. True
gamers, however, don't waste time with speakers. They get good
headsets.
answers10: Yes. Speakers designed for PC gaming are typically much
smaller in comparison with home theater speakers. Not to say that you
have to have large home theater speakers to get decent sound, there is
just quite a large difference in the quality. PC speakers to usually
intended to give the user sound for their interactions, home theater
or "surround sound" is designed to encompass the viewer in what is
going on on screen. The material doesn't matter, tv, movie, music, or
game you get a much fuller sound.
answers3: If the RCA comes with a blu ray player and 5 speakers and a
sub you have what they call a home theater. Your surround sound will
only be good if you play a movie or listen to a cd. <br>
<br>
A receiver will allow you to connect any device in the home, ex.
satellite receiver, vhs, ps3 and dvd player and so on. Everything will
have s/s because it connects to the a/v receiver and then to the tv.
<br>
So anything viewed on the tv will be in s/s as long as the movie or tv
show was filmed that way. Even if it wasn't, the sound will be better
than a home theater. The cost will be more, it just depends on what
you want. <br>
<br>
Most people start with a theater in a box and upgrade later. Some
people never upgrade and enjoy what they have.
book called: Creating Poetry by John Drury. I bought it and I am about
to use it. Otherwise, a library may be of some help.
Interested in poetry?
answers1: I was good - although i couldn't read all of it (it said u
must log in to read the rest), t this thought it was good. Very
thoughtful, and a good example that not all poetry has to rhyme.
answers2: While your story is good, that's all it is. This is not a
poem. Separating sentences so that they look like poetry doesn't make
it poetry. I'm sorry to be so harsh; on a positive note, you have a
good command of imagery that would do well in story form rather than
"poetry." <br>
<br>
Hope that was helpful.
answers3: Oh my gosh.... I LOVED this. It was REALLY good and really
gets at your emotions and you can relate to it very well. I enjoyed
it:D Keep writing ;)
answers4: I read this the other day and loved it, and i still do :) <br>
What would you call poetry?
answers1: I call poetry...well...poetry...but if you want something
deeper and profound...ask the next guy : )
answers2: Something that makes you think, laugh, cry, smile. <br>
It is someones opinion, a peep into someones mind, a story told in a
song for people who cant sing (lol:p) <br>
<br>
Lol that's just my strange little opinion! XD
answers3: It really depends onw hat tipe of poetry because if is a
love poem, what you are saying has to come from your heart and you
should be able to get your point threw by only saying it
answers4: complicated point. seek with yahoo and bing. just that could help!
answers5: FOR ME, poetry is ANYTHING that comes from the heart and
writing down. poetry doesnt have to rhyme or anything like that. Its
just purely anything you are feeling inside writen down in words, the
one thing to rememeber is, I THINK that really good poetry has to come
from the heart NOT the head. <br>
<br>
EDIT--- THE RESPONDER BELOW, (henry) is wrong, poetry does not need
any meter or rythem what so ever, there is a type of poetry called
''free verse'' and this type has no strict meter or ryhme or rythem..
people should look more into poetry before thinking they know it
all... GOOD LOOK anyway. x
answers6: Beautiful! Wow, there's a war in the poetry section? I am a
bit amazed! I could understand if it was R&S with all the heated
opinions & baiting questions, but what is there to do battle over in
poetry? Surely I miss something here. I hope I never become so jaded
that a kind word or lending my support becomes just too much to ask of
me! Keep writing my friend, the heart must have it's avenue of
expression, no matter what that avenue may be. Many Blessings!
answers7: A shining Beacon of hope for those of that are less than
perfect and feel trapped.
answers8: moving
answers9: hard task. lookup on yahoo. that will help!
answers10: I don't mean to be unkind to your other responders, but
none of these answers makes much sense. Of course, poetry can make us
laugh or cry, but so can a play, an ice cream cone, or a car wreck.
That's not a definition. <br>
<br>
Poetry has two characteristics that separate it from everything else.
First, it is nearly always written in meter, that is, it has a rhythm
to it. In the best poetry, that rhythm is a natural outgrowth of the
words used and doesn't seem forced. <br>
<br>
Second, poetry compacts much meaning into few words, (Epic poetry is
an exception, of course. The Odyssey isn't exactly a few words.)
Creative figurative language is what helps accomplish this. <br>
<br>
By the way, this definition places nursery rhymes and other metered
language that doesn't have fresh, interesting language outside the
definition of poetry. A good word for this is "verse."
Philosophy books for beginners?
answers1: maybe an introduction to philosophy textbook would suffice.
answers2: I would recommend The Apology by Plato. It is short, and
very surprisingly (to me) accessible, understandable. It shows you
that philosophy, even the ancients like Socrates, were just people
talking, like you and I might today at a Starbucks. And the issues
then were the same issues now.
answers3: Brian Magee's book is very good.
answers4: https://www.thereadinglists.com/best-philosophy-books-for-beginners/
answers5: Read 'The Great Conversation' by Norman Melchert (secular)
or 'Thales to Dewey' by Gordon Clark (Christian). <br>
People say to just jump right in to the writings of the greats, but if
you don't have some background to the context of the writings, you may
get lost. It is better, I think, to read at least one history of
philosophy book. They practically all give you background to the
writers' lives and the world they lived in when they wrote. This helps
you to understand why they said what they said. <br>
I hope you enjoy the subject.
Careers in Philosophy?
answers1: Yes, there is only one career you can have in philosophy and
that is to be a philosophy professor. <br>
Also, you can become a 'philosopher' and write/publish your own books.
But this is not really a career.
answers2: i suggest you do a hybrid major. if you seem to have unique
talent in undergraduate school and grad school then you can think
about being a philosophy professor. <br>
ideas: <br>
<br>
philosophy - law <br>
or <br>
philosophy and chemistry ....or the ULTIMATE (if i oculd go back in
time: PHILOSOPHY -PHYSICS) I am telling you you could rule the world!
answers3: Teaching would be the most likely career for you to go into
with that kind of study. Some people use Philosophy as a precursor to
Law school. Your study of Ethics, Morality, and Epistemology would be
good prep for law school, but Metaphysics doesn't prepare you for
anything job wise, unless you want to teach. If neither Law nor
Teaching sound good to you there is another door a degree in
Philosophy can open for you...you might as well practice saying it now
Who are the...(philosophy)?
answers1: Analytic Phil is one of my favorite things about this planet! <br>
<br>
Lets see... <br>
<br>
It probably began with Gottlob Frege, a mathematician who got curious
about the "Foundations of Arithmetic". From there, a lot of other
people got interested, most notably Bertard Russell and Ludwig
Wittgenstein. Analytic phil was largely formed by a group called the
"Vienna Circle", which was a bunch of people who hung out in coffee
shops in Vienna in the 1920s talking about language and philosophy.
<br>
<br>
Other people: Ayer, Carnap, Whitehead, Quine, Kripke. All are, to
some extent, my heroes. <br>
<br>
About phil mind: Just about every philosopher has touched on phil
mind at some point-- it is a topic, whereas analytic philosophy is
more of a method of doing philosophy. <br>
<br>
Hoped that helped.
What does Plato think philosophy is?
answers1: "...Socrates argued that people cannot understand the world
until they use rational thought to understand the true nature of
themselves [12]. Socrates was a mind-body dualist, this means that he
thought that the mind is composed of a different substance to the
brain, one that does not obey the same physical laws. The argument
that the mind is made of a substance which does obey the laws of
physics is known as Physicalism or materialism. <br>
<br>
Socrates believed that the mind has an irrational part which is
controlled by emotions and this is drawn to the body. Once the mind
and body merge, the mind is limited by what we are able to perceive
with our senses. The rational part of our mind mostly remains beyond
our conscious knowledge, however Socrates believed that it is the job
of philosophers to connect to the rational mind in order to become a
whole person. Once this is achieved, a rational person will see things
for what they really are. <br>
<br>
Socrates' pupil, Plato, elaborated upon this theory in The Republic,
where he described how the things we perceive on Earth are really
composed of ideas, or Forms [13]. A Form is an eternal and perfect
concept, something which is strived for but never actualised. All
horses, for example, are united by the concept of 'horse', an ideal
which all horses on Earth were built to resemble. But it is not just
physical objects that have Forms. Forms also apply to abstract
concepts such as beauty. Plato argued that all of the Forms exist
outside of the realm of regular perception, in the 'realm of the
Forms'. <br>
<br>
Plato did not trust sensory information because we can confuse reality
with the imagination, the most extreme cases happen when we dream or
hallucinate but this also occurs when we confuse one object for
another. Plato argued that we are often presented with illusions of
this kind, a stick, for example, can appear bent in water, yet when we
pick it up we will find that it is straight. Things are not always
what they seem and we are not always aware that we are making these
mistakes. Plato praised mathematics as one of the only forms of true
knowledge and disliked art because he thought that we distort our
perception even further when we attempt to copy an imperfect image.
<br>
<br>
Plato's simile of the cave describes how we are analogous to people
who spend their lives looking only at shadows. These people will come
to believe that only shadows exist and when someone tells them of the
world of light above they do not believe them. Plato argued that it
takes a philosopher to leave the cave and see the world as it truly
is. Like Socrates, Plato believed this could only be achieved through
rational introspection. <br>
<br>
Socrates and Plato's belief in the soul came from the need to explain
human intellect, animals do not possess anything similar and it could
not be explained mechanically. The Forms explain how the mind
interprets the continuous stream of sensory data it is exposed to by
recognising certain, eternal concepts. If our intellect is composed of
Forms, then it is eternal and distinct from the body. Plato did not
believe that the mind exists in time or space and thought that it
would return to the Realm of the Forms upon death. <br>
<br>
Plato set up an academy for men to learn philosophy and one of its
pupils was Aristotle, who was born in 384 BC. Aristotle rejected many
of Plato's theories including rationalism, he argued that the mind
does not have innate ideas and compared it to an unscribed tablet, a
'tabula rasa' [15]. Aristotle rejected Plato's realm of the Forms,
arguing that the Forms are concepts devised by men to categorise
things. Aristotle argued that the soul was a part of the human body
and so also rejected dualism. He did however, believe that intellect
was different from any other part of the body as our conscious range
is not restricted in the way that our physical senses are. Aristotle
argued that intellect does not have a corresponding bodily organ. This
means that it does not exist in space, despite having a physical
origin..." <br>
answers2: let me check in books.
answers3: He thinks philosophy is a lot of things; (training for
death; pursuing wisdom; grasping the world of the forms/ideas; a
"passed torch"); but only talks about the "true philosophy", mostly
employing Socrates as an exemplary philosopher to describe the "true
philosophy", rather than to actually define philosophy as you request
above. Why wouldn't Plato actually define this "true philosophy"? He
tells you why, quote <br>
<br>
PLATO: <br>
Thus much at least, I can say about all writers, past or future, who
say they know the things to which I devote myself, whether by hearing
the teaching of me or of others, or by their own discoveries-that
according to my view it is not possible for them to have any real
skill in the matter. There neither is nor ever will be a treatise of
mine on the subject. For it does not admit of exposition like other
branches of knowledge; but after much converse about the matter itself
and a life lived together, suddenly a light, as it were, is kindled in
one soul by a flame that leaps to it from another, and thereafter
sustains itself. Yet this much I know-that if the things were written
or put into words, it would be done best by me, and that, if they were
written badly, I should be the person most pained. Again, if they had
appeared to me to admit adequately of writing and exposition, what
task in life could I have performed nobler than this, to write what is
of great service to mankind and to bring the nature of things into the
light for all to see? But I do not think it a good thing for men that
there should be a disquisition, as it is called, on this topic-except
for some few, who are able with a little teaching to find it out for
themselves. As for the rest, it would fill some of them quite
illogically with a mistaken feeling of contempt, and others with lofty
and vain-glorious expectations, as though they had learnt something
high and mighty. <br>
<br>
On this point I intend to speak a little more at length; for perhaps,
when I have done so, things will be clearer with regard to my present
subject. There is an argument which holds good against the man
ventures to put anything whatever into writing on questions of this
nature; it has often before been stated by me, and it seems suitable
to the present occasion. <br>
<br>
For everything that exists there are three instruments by which the
knowledge of it is necessarily imparted; fourth, there is the
knowledge itself, and, as fifth, we must count the thing itself which
is known and truly exists. The first is the name, the, second the
definition, the third. the image, and the fourth the knowledge. If you
wish to learn what I mean, take these in the case of one instance, and
so understand them in the case of all. A circle is a thing spoken of,
and its name is that very word which we have just uttered. The second
thing belonging to it is its definition, made up names and verbal
forms. For that which has the name "round," "annular," or, "circle,"
might be defined as that which has the distance from its circumference
to its centre everywhere equal. Third, comes that which is drawn and
rubbed out again, or turned on a lathe and broken up-none of which
things can happen to the circle itself-to which the other things,
mentioned have reference; for it is something of a different order
from them. Fourth, comes knowledge, intelligence and right opinion
about these things. Under this one head we must group everything which
has its existence, not in words nor in bodily shapes, but in
souls-from which it is dear that it is something different from the
nature of the circle itself and from the three things mentioned
before. Of these things intelligence comes closest in kinship and
likeness to the fifth, and the others are farther distant. <br>
<br>
The same applies ... (snip)... For this reason no man of intelligence
will venture to express his philosophical views in language,
especially not in language that is unchangeable, which is true of that
which is set down in written characters. [Plato 7th Letter; 341b -
343a] <br>
<br>
In other words if Plato defined "the philosopher" or "philosophy" that
would be a 2nd level or very low level of understanding of the word at
about 3 removes from the "true philosophy itself", which he refuses to
put into writing, for the above stated reasons. That is why he
founded an "Academy" so that he could personally "pass the torch" of
"true philosophy" on to other personal initiates. <br>
answers4: The method wherein the tale of Atlantis is written makes it
transparent that it was once now not intended to be truly. The concept
that the Greeks traced any form of civilisation again to nine,six
hundred BC (roughly) is under no circumstances intended to be a truly
until they use rational thought to understand the true nature of
themselves [12]. Socrates was a mind-body dualist, this means that he
thought that the mind is composed of a different substance to the
brain, one that does not obey the same physical laws. The argument
that the mind is made of a substance which does obey the laws of
physics is known as Physicalism or materialism. <br>
<br>
Socrates believed that the mind has an irrational part which is
controlled by emotions and this is drawn to the body. Once the mind
and body merge, the mind is limited by what we are able to perceive
with our senses. The rational part of our mind mostly remains beyond
our conscious knowledge, however Socrates believed that it is the job
of philosophers to connect to the rational mind in order to become a
whole person. Once this is achieved, a rational person will see things
for what they really are. <br>
<br>
Socrates' pupil, Plato, elaborated upon this theory in The Republic,
where he described how the things we perceive on Earth are really
composed of ideas, or Forms [13]. A Form is an eternal and perfect
concept, something which is strived for but never actualised. All
horses, for example, are united by the concept of 'horse', an ideal
which all horses on Earth were built to resemble. But it is not just
physical objects that have Forms. Forms also apply to abstract
concepts such as beauty. Plato argued that all of the Forms exist
outside of the realm of regular perception, in the 'realm of the
Forms'. <br>
<br>
Plato did not trust sensory information because we can confuse reality
with the imagination, the most extreme cases happen when we dream or
hallucinate but this also occurs when we confuse one object for
another. Plato argued that we are often presented with illusions of
this kind, a stick, for example, can appear bent in water, yet when we
pick it up we will find that it is straight. Things are not always
what they seem and we are not always aware that we are making these
mistakes. Plato praised mathematics as one of the only forms of true
knowledge and disliked art because he thought that we distort our
perception even further when we attempt to copy an imperfect image.
<br>
<br>
Plato's simile of the cave describes how we are analogous to people
who spend their lives looking only at shadows. These people will come
to believe that only shadows exist and when someone tells them of the
world of light above they do not believe them. Plato argued that it
takes a philosopher to leave the cave and see the world as it truly
is. Like Socrates, Plato believed this could only be achieved through
rational introspection. <br>
<br>
Socrates and Plato's belief in the soul came from the need to explain
human intellect, animals do not possess anything similar and it could
not be explained mechanically. The Forms explain how the mind
interprets the continuous stream of sensory data it is exposed to by
recognising certain, eternal concepts. If our intellect is composed of
Forms, then it is eternal and distinct from the body. Plato did not
believe that the mind exists in time or space and thought that it
would return to the Realm of the Forms upon death. <br>
<br>
Plato set up an academy for men to learn philosophy and one of its
pupils was Aristotle, who was born in 384 BC. Aristotle rejected many
of Plato's theories including rationalism, he argued that the mind
does not have innate ideas and compared it to an unscribed tablet, a
'tabula rasa' [15]. Aristotle rejected Plato's realm of the Forms,
arguing that the Forms are concepts devised by men to categorise
things. Aristotle argued that the soul was a part of the human body
and so also rejected dualism. He did however, believe that intellect
was different from any other part of the body as our conscious range
is not restricted in the way that our physical senses are. Aristotle
argued that intellect does not have a corresponding bodily organ. This
means that it does not exist in space, despite having a physical
origin..." <br>
answers3: He thinks philosophy is a lot of things; (training for
death; pursuing wisdom; grasping the world of the forms/ideas; a
"passed torch"); but only talks about the "true philosophy", mostly
employing Socrates as an exemplary philosopher to describe the "true
philosophy", rather than to actually define philosophy as you request
above. Why wouldn't Plato actually define this "true philosophy"? He
tells you why, quote <br>
<br>
PLATO: <br>
Thus much at least, I can say about all writers, past or future, who
say they know the things to which I devote myself, whether by hearing
the teaching of me or of others, or by their own discoveries-that
according to my view it is not possible for them to have any real
skill in the matter. There neither is nor ever will be a treatise of
mine on the subject. For it does not admit of exposition like other
branches of knowledge; but after much converse about the matter itself
and a life lived together, suddenly a light, as it were, is kindled in
one soul by a flame that leaps to it from another, and thereafter
sustains itself. Yet this much I know-that if the things were written
or put into words, it would be done best by me, and that, if they were
written badly, I should be the person most pained. Again, if they had
appeared to me to admit adequately of writing and exposition, what
task in life could I have performed nobler than this, to write what is
of great service to mankind and to bring the nature of things into the
light for all to see? But I do not think it a good thing for men that
there should be a disquisition, as it is called, on this topic-except
for some few, who are able with a little teaching to find it out for
themselves. As for the rest, it would fill some of them quite
illogically with a mistaken feeling of contempt, and others with lofty
and vain-glorious expectations, as though they had learnt something
high and mighty. <br>
<br>
On this point I intend to speak a little more at length; for perhaps,
when I have done so, things will be clearer with regard to my present
subject. There is an argument which holds good against the man
ventures to put anything whatever into writing on questions of this
nature; it has often before been stated by me, and it seems suitable
to the present occasion. <br>
<br>
For everything that exists there are three instruments by which the
knowledge of it is necessarily imparted; fourth, there is the
knowledge itself, and, as fifth, we must count the thing itself which
is known and truly exists. The first is the name, the, second the
definition, the third. the image, and the fourth the knowledge. If you
wish to learn what I mean, take these in the case of one instance, and
so understand them in the case of all. A circle is a thing spoken of,
and its name is that very word which we have just uttered. The second
thing belonging to it is its definition, made up names and verbal
forms. For that which has the name "round," "annular," or, "circle,"
might be defined as that which has the distance from its circumference
to its centre everywhere equal. Third, comes that which is drawn and
rubbed out again, or turned on a lathe and broken up-none of which
things can happen to the circle itself-to which the other things,
mentioned have reference; for it is something of a different order
from them. Fourth, comes knowledge, intelligence and right opinion
about these things. Under this one head we must group everything which
has its existence, not in words nor in bodily shapes, but in
souls-from which it is dear that it is something different from the
nature of the circle itself and from the three things mentioned
before. Of these things intelligence comes closest in kinship and
likeness to the fifth, and the others are farther distant. <br>
<br>
The same applies ... (snip)... For this reason no man of intelligence
will venture to express his philosophical views in language,
especially not in language that is unchangeable, which is true of that
which is set down in written characters. [Plato 7th Letter; 341b -
343a] <br>
<br>
In other words if Plato defined "the philosopher" or "philosophy" that
would be a 2nd level or very low level of understanding of the word at
about 3 removes from the "true philosophy itself", which he refuses to
put into writing, for the above stated reasons. That is why he
founded an "Academy" so that he could personally "pass the torch" of
"true philosophy" on to other personal initiates. <br>
