answers5:In response to the other user, if you're trying to avoid
adult material, then DO NOT PICK UP WIZARD'S FIRST RULE. It's great
book, possibly the one that really started me wanting to do Epic
Fantasy. Goodkind is a brilliant author, but contrary to what the
other user would have you believe, the book would be better rated as R
for violence, especially one scene. Further, many of the situations
there, especially later in the series, are NOT something that would
fall anywhere near PG-13. It's an R book....Show more
answers6:any of the old "classics" of sci-fi would be great, and
pretty much "G" rated, sometimes borderline "PG" for implied violence,
but nothing graphic at all. Pretty tame by Stargate SG-1 TV series
standards. I would suggest any of Isaac Asimov's books--start with
some of the Foundation-related books. Arthur C Clarke, Robert
Heinlein, and coming forward in time, Ursula LeGuin, CS Lewis and
Madeleine L'Engle. Orson Scott Card, Kim Stanley RobinsonGreg Bear,
Gregory Benfordthose would be just a start....Show more

Beauty by Libba Bray. It's a historical-fiction fantasy with adventure
and some romance. The second book is Rebel Angels and the third book
is The Sweet Far Thing. Enjoy!
answers10:Of course he is! I wrote a paper on this, and I used "The
Snows of Kilimanjaro" as a backup. He writes about Harry, a man who's
slowly dying of gangrene, and as he's dying he's remembering all the
things that he should've written, what he wrote, and his past life
basically. It's a really good story about himself!
answers11:Have you read the Harry Potter series? I love it!! It's an
awesome series I didn't used to like to read, but a few years ago
someone introduced the first HP book... at first I was bored and I
didn't get far, but as soon as I saw the first movie I loved it! I
went to the theaters to see the second movie, but I couldn't wait for
the third movie to see what happens, so ever since then I've loved all
the books. (even the first one, lol) They're clean humor, science
fiction, and written very well ^^...Show more

answers13:My favorite author is Robert A. Heinlein, and I would
recommend any of his books. Be advised: RAH was an old-school
libertarian, and his characters relfect many of the same sentiments;
"because it's always been done that way" is the worst possible excuse
for a given course of action. The adult content (where it exists)
isn't particularly graphic; however, he is not afraid to challenge
established mores.His stories are character-based; his self-proclaimed
method of writing is : he posits a given future, introduces a
character, and gets him/her into trouble. He has a number of books
targeted towards younger audiences that are all excellent and I would
consider rated G/PG (Podkayne from Mars, The Menace from Earth, Have
Spacesuit Will Travel, Farmer in the Sky, the Rolling Stones, Space
Cadet, Between Planets)Many of his classics are PG/PG-13, due to
non-sexual adult content (Double Star (Hugo) , Starship Troopers
(Hugo) , The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (Hugo), The Puppet Masters, The
Door Into Summer). This is the real world; there are good guys, bad
guys, indifferent guys, and sometimes it's not easy to tell who's
who. Many of his later books (Friday, The Cat Who Walked Through Walls,
Time Enough for Love, Number of the Beast, To Sail Beyond the Sunset)
are sufficiently explicit sexually to be considered PG-13/R. Also,
any book with Lazarus Long in it (with the possible exception of
Methuselah's Children) should be read with care. Lazarus is ornery,
cantankerous, somewhat unpredictable, and considered by many to be a
bad influence; he is easily my favorite sci-fi character.Stranger in a
Strange Land (also won the Hugo) is in a class by itself, and should
not be read by anyone who isn't prepared to have every one of his/her
beliefs challenged; it's as subtle as a punch in the face....Show more

answers15:Please suggest a few books. I also like stories with
romance but only if it is a small part of the story and very chaste
(think original Star Wars movies). Please rate the books (G, PG,
PG-13, R and why they are rated that way, such as for violence,
thematic elements, etc.). Thanks for your suggestionsHere's a list of
all the science fiction I've read (yes, I know, not very much): the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (liked), the Stargate SG-1

and Scott Westerfeld (Uglies, Pretties and Specials) - both are
trilogies set in possible futures. With Lowry, there really doesn't
seem to be a lot of organization or much purpose, and no one questions
the way things are because that's just how it is. Westerfeld is
similar except this society is high tech with travel on hoverboards
and operations when you turn 16, when you become a Pretty. Lurlene

Paulsen, Louis Sachar, Sharon Draper and Walter Dean Myers....Show

Gossip Girl. All the books in both series are good realistic fiction
books for girls that i really recommend!
answers22:Personally I liked "The king beyond the gate" By David
Gemmell. There's some romance but it's not physical, and it's a minor
part of the story. There's a lot of fighting in it. David Gemmell is
known mostly for his skill at action scene's as some authors can be
bland. It would probably be rated PG-13 because of the fighting, but
it's not grotesque in it's detail or anything. "Enders Game" by Orson
Scott Card is probably my favorite. Rated G or PG. I don't know anyone
who doesn't like this one. I wouldn't want to give away the plot so
I'll just STRONGLY recomend "Enders Game". Another good one is "Ink
Heart" by Cornelia Funke. It's VERY tame, mostly because it's a
childrens book, but don't let that fool you. No real romance in it,
just a good story line. Probably rated G. (I like clean fiction
too)."Wizard's First Rule" by Terry Goodkind is pretty good. It's got
all the basics of a good fantasy novel. Young boy thrown headlong into
saving the world, older mentor figure, young damsel in distress, evil
guy trying to take over, but there's a lot of surprises in there so
it's a good read. It would probably be rated PG-13 for situations that
the hero finds himself in. The evil guy can be pretty evil too(duh).
Hope that's satisfying....Show more
