Will an SDTV with an ATSC tuner still be able to pick up broadcast television signals after 2/09?

Coralie Goldsberry: Yes, if the TV has an ATSC tuner it should be able to receive and play in SD any digital transmission. Note that digital transmission does not necesserily means HD. This is not different than what EDTVs do

Rose Krouse: By law all TV's over 26" sold after Jan 1, 2007 must have a ATSC receiver in it and after March 1 all TV's regardless of size must have a ATSC receiver in it. After 2/09 old analog (NTSC) signals will no longer be transmitted. So what does this mean to you? If you buy a TV over 26" now or ANY TV after March 1, for your mother, it will be a Digital TV or DTV. All DTV's will receivewww.w any type of digital format (their are 28 of them) by law. The only difference is that the cheaper TV's will not be able to display the highest quality Digital television (HDTV) in its native resolution, but will down scale it to something the TV can handle. So don't fear the law is on your side and shopping for TV's should be allot easier now!!!...Sho! w more
