Gaynell Pizzaro: Undergraduate degree programs in public health are rare and it would be difficult to find a good job in public health with just an undergraduate degree. You need a master's degree to succeed in public health.
Newton Fedorko: I think in the long run you are always better off having the BSN. The BSN provides more in-depth knowledge of nursing theory, leadership roles, research process, etc., which can only enhance your practice. I do not believe it is necessary to go straight for the BSN right away. Going the ADN route first is a very practical option for many people who want to get working faster, who might not be able to afford tuition for 4 years at a university, who find more flexibility in class offerings at community colleges, etc. It's what I chose to do. I had been a young mom and did not go to college fresh out of high school. I was intimidated to go back later and wasn't sure if I would perform well in a 4 year university setting, so I thou! ght that somehow the 2 year RN programs would be easier. I was very mistaken, LOL. After I graduated, I found a job where my employer offers tuition reimbursement and I started the very next semester to complete my BSN in an online program. The BSN completion courses have been in NO way as demanding and stressful as the initial licensure courses. Completing my BSN was a piece of cake. If you don't know if you want or truly need the BSN, start with your ADN, work for awhile and see where life takes you. I do encourage you to strongly consider it because it is not as great of a time commitment, you can work at your own pace, and it will enrich your career in the long run. Good luck....Show more
Stephnie Patout: Are you wanting to get a job in public or community health nursing? You would need a BSN first(4 year nursing degree) and then a Masters.
