Is the US education good or bad? Why? Please read the additional details.?

Beau Starcevic: I guess your "multiple teachers" don't know much. In Finland all 8th graders go to same or at least similar schools, with hardly any differences in their curriculums. Also schools don't separate students, students choose themselves what they want to study after they finish their after 9th grade when they are usually 16 years old. Those PISA tests are probably held during their final year or the year before. The difference between Finnish and American schools (as reported by Finnish exchange students in USA) is that Americans study same stuff during their junior year in High School that we have studied in maybe our 8th grade, some three years earlier. Many have said that it feels like they are being treated as children when in our schools they have been treated as adults because they already are adults, more or less....Show more

Darnell Cutliff: The reason why America's high school education is lacking is because the standard just isn't high and each st! ate/county has its own requirements for graduation. In the 1990s, students in VA were graduating with a 6th grade reading level. After about a decade of implanting SOLs (VA's state standardized tests) that number has gone way up, and FCPS (a county in VA) is one of the top eleven counties in scholastics in the US. With that, it is easy to see since the standard isn't up high then neither will be the achievement. Our upper levels of education (college and university) excel because those schools want to make money, and thus they are very selective of who they pick. Therefore creating a higher standard to reach up to and achieve. The US citizens aren't stupid. They, in fact, are the majority of the States college/ university students in America (disproving the visa thing, but then again almost all Americans are immigrants). It is just that since the high school standard is so low that college students aren't usually prepared there first semester of college. They do, however, g! o over the bar and achieve that. Another reason why US high sc! hools are lacking is because of extra curricular activities that students have to manage. In most countries, it is just scholastics. Thus, it is clear to see America is below 10-20 countries in high school, but in university they are one of tops if not the top....Show more

Porfirio Cahall: You know what? The reason I'm here in the United States is for education and a freedom life. I'm Asian, and our education institutions sucks. The teacher doesn't know what he/she is doing. They hit us every time we don't study (some students died because of that). In fact, the U.S. have the best education institutions in the world. In Asia, we could have a good education institution as well, but most of countries in Asia are communist and they don't care about other people's life. They force poor family to pay money before step in the school property. No free education like U.S. that's a reason why Asia always poor. Because we don't have a good education institution in Asia that's w! hy so many Asian kids do well in school when they arrived at the United States. In Asia, Indian is the smartest and then Chinese and Vietnamese....Show more

Stormy Beliard: The US has absolutely a fantastic education system, no questions about it!

Monica Voltin: Extremely bad. I immigrated here in 2nd grade, and the kids COULD NOT ADD. I mean, wtf? Here are some other examples:- In 7th grade, a lot of American kids couldn't locate USA on the map.- Also in 7th grade, many kids thought Atlanta was the capital of USA.- Many high school students don't even know their own history. I'm making an A in US History while many kids are making low B's. Funny thing is, they always say "OMG, you're so smart! You're Asian!"- We've been reading some essay examples, and they were so bad. English isn't my first language, and I can write way better than Americans who spoke English all their lives.- There are even adults who think Washington D.C. is located in Washington state....Sh! ow more
