Renita Sefton: Tivo is just another DVR with a hefty price tag. Correct me if i'm wrong, but there is a monthly charge. That's the bad aspect. The good aspects are obvious: Fast forward through commercials, pause and rewind live TV, and record your favorite shows.If you can build a computer (or know anybody who can build a computer [trust me, it's easy]), you can build your own DVR and not pay any monthly fee whatsoever. There are many more advantages to this method: Upgrade your storage for simply the price of another hard drive, copying your shows onto DVD or CDs, sharing your recorded shows with your entire household network... And my favorite: skipping all commercials in your show with the press of a single button (DVR program called MythTV).So overall, TiVo = More expensive, less features compared to a homemade DVR. TiVo = Bad....Show more
