Robt Betker: 1. Standard DVRs are $99 while Hd-Dvrs are $199 (one time up front cost)2. Both also will have $19.95 handling and any installation charges - generally a minimum of $493. DVR svc is $6 a month and HD access is $10 a month4. If you discontinue the HD access you will need to return the HD-DVR to DirecTV -- the HD signal will work on standard TVs but won't look as good -- since you agree to keep HD access on the account when you upgrade5. Since the HD is a monitor and not an actual television, unless you are planning to get an actual HD television, I think the standard DVR will be fine.Hope this helps. I have a friend looking into the same thing and I've helped her get the above information.Good luck!...Show more
Bethany Blocker: MOM of 4 is correct with the exception on one thing. You will not have to return the hd/dvr if you cancel service. But everytime you tune to a HD channel, you will get a CHANNEL NOT PURCHASED" message. It's kind of annoying.! I would say go with the regular DVR. 100 hours is still a lot of time. That's 50 movies. who really keeps that many movies on their DVR?The only way to copy to a DVD is to use a video capture device on your PC. There is no legal way to copy straight from you DVR. That is called Piracy and is illegal....Show more
Ricky Frazer: @heath1500 -- Can the HD channels be removed from the program list so they don't become annoying?
